5 Ways To Stop Procrastinating (and get stuff done)

Do you tend to put off your to-dos for another time?

“Oh, I’ll do it tomorrow.” And tomorrow never comes because other things take up your time and attention?

It’s time to stop putting those to do on the back burner and just get it done.

Here are 5 ways you can stop procrastinating and get things done:

  • Try the Pomodoro technique – this is where you basically work/focus on a yarn project for 25 minutes, then take a 5 minute break and reward yourself (such as have a cup of coffee, check your email, etc).
I like it because you get to take breaks and it gives you something to look forward to. So it’s a great motivator to get up and start working.

  • Remember your “Why” – Think about the excitement you felt when you first decided to do that project/goal. Focus on the end (completing the project). Imagine how ecstatic you would feel once you get it done. Don’t get overwhelmed. Take it one step at a time, be consistent and before you know it, you’ll be all done.

  • Have a routine – Whatever it is that you’re procrastinating about, (exercising etc.), make it a daily part of your routine. When we do something for at least 21 days, it becomes a habit. So make it a habit to do it everyday. Your mind and body will get used to it as a regular part of your life and you will soon come to the point where you don’t even think about it. You just do it as part of your regular routine.

  • Set deadlines – give yourself a deadline to complete each project. Knowing you have to get a project done in a certain amount of time would help keep you from putting it off or dragging your heels on it. Doing this also helps you get more projects done in a shorter time and you don’t have a bunch of unfinished projects lying around.

  • Organize Your Work Area – Nothing turns one off more than a cluttered space . When an area is full of clutter, there is no desire to do any work there. A cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind. Organize your space so everything is clear and neat and easily accessible and you will be inspired and motivated to get work done every time.

Procrastinating can keep us from moving forward and getting things done.

There are times when we must put off something for another time.

But if it’s only because we just don’t feel like it, we need to set aside our feelings and focus on the end goal, which is to finish what we started.
